  • If You Are Injured at Work: Workers’ Compensation

EMC maintains Workers' Compensation insurance to protect all employees in the event of illness or injury arising out of or occurring in the course of employment. All employees on EMC’s payroll are covered under EMC’s Workers’ Compensation, which begins on their date of hire, at no cost to employees.

We have hired CorVel to assist job-related injured workers in receiving immediate and quality medical care, to administer workers’ compensation claims from the initial injury until the closing of the claim, and to safely return work related injured employees to productive employment. All nurses within CorVel’s 24/7 team specialize in work related injuries and will ensure you get the care you need.  CorVel will report the incident to Dell’s environmental, health and safety (EHS) team as well as risk management.

Steps to follow if you are injured:

    1. When injured on the job during any shift, you should immediately tell your manager and call CorVel’s 24/7 Nurse Hotline at 877-764-3574. A registered nurse will help evaluate the nature of your incident determining immediate care and ensuring the incident is reported. If your incident is serious and requires immediate medical treatment, go to the nearest hospital for treatment or call 911. After treatment, contact CorVel to report the incident at the same number listed above.
    2. If you have an occupational health center located on your site, you may continue to report your injury to the occupational health nurse who will provide immediate medical care and ensure prompt reporting to CorVel.
    3. You will receive a letter in the mail with your CorVel examiner’s contact information.
    4. CorVel will send you a pharmacy card in the mail to ensure that all of your authorized prescriptions under your claim are covered.
    5. CorVel will provide you access to an APP for your mobile device and/or tablet that will also contain your examiner contact information, your pharmacy card (so you do not have to carry the physical card), and will list your doctors information along with your schedule of appointments.
    6. CorVel and Dell will make every effort to work with you in returning you to your job.

If Your Workers’ Comp Leave Extends Beyond 13 Weeks

If your workers comp leave extends beyond 13 weeks and you have elected Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage, you are eligible to apply for LTD benefits under our disability carrier, Cigna. Please contact your benefits rep to assist you in initiating this process if it appears that your leave will continue beyond 13 weeks. During LTD most of your regular benefit premiums will be deducted from your disability checks.

The LTD benefit will be offset by the amount that you receive from Workers’ Compensation. The minimum monthly LTD benefit, regardless of any Workers’ Compensation offset, will be the greater of $100 or 10% of what your monthly benefit would have been if you were not receiving Workers’ Compensation benefits.
